Getting a Library Card

Library cards are issued free to anyone (age 18 or older) with a valid picture identification and proof of address. The identification must be issued by a government agency or organization and include a current recognizable photograph.

Library users must present their own library card in order to checkout library materials.

ADULTS

Two pieces of ID are required, one piece of ID must contain a valid photo and both must have a current address. Acceptable address identification includes, but not limited to; Kentucky Driver's License or state issued identification card, printed checks, care registration, military of government ID, rental/lease agreement, current utility bill, or an envelope with recent postmark that shows the current address.

CHILDREN

Parents and/or legal guardians may request a library card for a child. Parents or legal guardians must have a valid card present when the card is issued. The parent or legal guardian must sign the Library Card registration form. This signature constitutes the parent or legal guardian's permission for the child to have a card, and signifies a willingness to assume financial responsibility for all materials checked out on the child's card.

STUDENT CARDS

Borrowers between the ages of 12 and 17 are eligible to apply for a Student Card at Metcalfe County Public Library without a parent present or in possession of an adult card. Young adult borrowers must complete a student card application in full and return the form the the library. Applications without a valid parent/legal guardian signature will not be accepted. Library staff will contact the parent/legal guardian to confirm provided information.

All policies regarding establishing a patron record in good standing, lost cards, circulation length, requests and renewals, and overdue, lost, and damaged items apply. However, loan limits for young adult borrowers will be restricted to books only, with a maximum of two books checked out at any given time. For full borrowing privileges, including computer use, a parent or legal caregiver must physically come into the library, sign the permission form for computer use, and possess an adult card in good standing.
